One of 20 people who were detained by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Election Crimes and Security task force in the middle of August was Ronald Lee Miller, 57, who told Local 10 News that he had been misled into thinking he was legally permitted to cast a ballot when he was not.
Miller, who had served time in jail after being found guilty of murder, claimed to have obtained a state-issued voter ID in 2020.
“How can you send me a card and then come back and arrest me over a card you sent me?” Miller questioned.
Miller was unaware that the grocery store volunteer working on voter registration had misled him about his ability to register to vote.
According to Miller’s attorney, Robert Barrar, he feels like his client is being wrongfully accused.
Although they now had criminals’ statements to law enforcement indicating they were “approached by voter advocates,” “assumed it was all legal,” and “signed the documents the volunteer filled out,” state elections officials, who verify voter eligibility, stand behind the arrests.
