Woman from South Carolina receives sentence for Social Security fraud scheme

Crystal Deveaux, 61, admitted guilt to defrauding the United States of nearly $258,000 in Social Security Retirement Insurance Benefits from 2001 to 2020 on behalf of her deceased grandmother. cited by the Justice Department.

According to a DOJ press release, Deveaux continued to cash checks for her grandmother even after she passed away so that she could gain personally.

Along with the RIB money, Deveaux also received the following:

-Medicare premiums totaling $22,840.10 on the grandmother’s behalf
-Supplemental Security Income (SSI) of $22,875.00 due to Deveaux’s understatement of income
-After neglecting to disclose her husband’s Veteran’s Administration (VA) payments, she received $23,751.42 from the Social Security Administration.

Deveaux was given a sentence of 15 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of court supervision, by United States District Judge Sherri A. Lydon.
