According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Peter Griffin, 78, a former vice investigator and lawyer who was detained Thursday morning immediately after leaving his San Diego home. While a fourth defendant is still at large, co-defendants Kyung Sook Hernandez, 58, and Yu Hong Tan, 56, were also taken into custody on Thursday.

According to the prosecution, between 2013 and 2022, Griffin and his co-defendants owned and ran five businesses in Arizona and California. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the defendants advertised sexual services online and hired “several women” to provide those services.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Griffin previously served in the Vice Unit of the San Diego Police Department. “a unit tasked with dismantling the businesses he now stands charged with operating and promoting.”

According to Lt. Adam Sharki, SDPD participated in this investigation as a member of the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force.

Lt. Sharki says “SDPD separated employment with Mr. Griffin nearly two decades ago. We want to thank our allied agencies for partnering with us in bringing the investigation to this conclusion,”
