The Los Angeles Lakers’ owner Jeanie Buss’ Twitter account was hacked earlier today as part of a PlayStation 5 hoax.

Over the course of the afternoon, her account tweeted that she, the multi-millionaire owner of one of the world’s most recognizable sports businesses, had three PlayStation 5 systems she was going to donate to charity. This gave the impression that they were seated on the kitchen floor. through her DMs.

Naturally, the entire tweet was a warning sign—which charity? Why is there no capitalization? After that, anyone who really tweeted at her account was instructed to transfer funds to an arbitrary Zelle account so that a “shipping label” could be generated for them (it would never be created).

Clearly a hoax, but considering Buss has 430,000 Twitter followers, who knows—maybe some of them genuinely fell for it. When the hack locked her out of her account, Buss was forced to use the team’s official communications to spread the message and ask fans not to donate any money.

Eventually, she reclaimed control of her account, and the fraudulent tweet was removed.
