People are being warned by police agencies in western Massachusetts about items that are not addressed to them being delivered to their residences before being picked up by a man posing as an Amazon delivery driver.

After receiving many reports from various areas of the city, the Longmeadow Police Department posted a notice on Facebook informing the public of the incident.

Our inquiries were directed to Longmeadow Police Captain Carl Mazzaferro, who informed Western Mass News that his agency had gotten 5 to 10 calls from locals who had each received a parcel addressed to their residence but not to their particular name.

A Hispanic man sporting a colorful vest has been identified as the suspect. He communicates with locals on the phone while operating an outdated white vehicle.

“There are no charges at this time, but we’re asking residents if they receive packages to stay vigilant and call us,” Captain Mazzaferro said. “We’re still looking to identify the individual that is showing up at their house posing as a possible Amazon driver looking to take possession of that package.”

All of these packages had cellphones, said Captain Mazzaferro in addition.

When we made contact with other police agencies in western Massachusetts, we discovered that East Longmeadow, Wilbraham, and Palmer had also reported incidents of this nature.

According to Palmer Police, one person from Dorchester who was observed wearing an Amazon vest but was not an Amazon employee has been identified in connection with an incident that happened on June 25. Additionally, charges are being prepared and an investigation is proceeding.
